“The Probability – neither yes nor no -” by Kanade Yagi at CCP

May 17 @ 6:00 pm - July 14 @ 6:00 pm

The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) presents the venue grant exhibition The Probability – neither yes nor no – by Kanade Yagi, a visual artist based in Manila, and Saitama, Japan. The exhibit opens on 17 May 2019 at 6pm in the CCP’s Bulwagang Fernando Amorsolo (Small Gallery). Featuring traditional healer’s techniques—such as the divination and diagnostic methods called “pagtatawas” and “tadja”—Yagi will develop for this exhibition an installation composed of video projections and photographs, along with some of the everyday materials that healers often use. Through these works, she hopes to discuss the ways that we engage, in life, with the duality of yes and no.

In line with the exhibition, Kanade Yagi will facilitate a children’s workshop on traditional healing techniques on 23 May at 2pm in the CCP’s MKP Hall, and a guided tour of the exhibition on 20 June at 4pm.

Since 2014, Kanade Yagi has been inspired by the spirituality and rich creativity in the Philippines. She graduated from the Tokyo Zokei University and finished the research program of the CCA (Center for Contemporary Art) in Kitakyushu. She did research in the Philippines as a researcher of Asia Fellowship of Japan Foundation in 2016 and the Japanese Government Overseas Study Program for Artists in 2017.

The opening reception will be at Bulwagang Fernando Amorsolo this Friday, May 17, 2019. The exhibit will be up until July 14, 2019.
