“Heaven is Now”: Lala Gallardo and Jack Mernin at Altro Mondo at the Picasso

Concluding this Saturday at Altro Mondo Arte Contemporanea is “Heaven is Now,” a two-man exhibition by Lala Gallardo and Jack Mernin at the Altro Monto Gallery at the Picasso Boutique Serviced Residences.

These two artists gather to execute their works that present an emotional whirlwind of agony and solace.  The term heaven being described in this context is the feeling of utmost happiness and a sense of blessed peace.

“The pieces are about dealing with issued of emotional pain and my desire to heal from that pain,” says artist Lala Gallardo.  “My goal is to cultivate a peaceful mind that is fully present.”

Lala Gallardo is a Filipino artist who is a BA Arts History graduate from the University of the Philippines, Diliman.  Inspired mainly by film and photography, Lala’s art serves as her confessional, where she confronts her insecurities and doubts.  A constant subject matter is women at their most raw and vulnerable.  Subdued colors and an air of repression and contemplation permeate her works.

Jack Mernin is an American artist currently based in Manila.  He graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2014 with a degree in BFA in Painting.  His work has been shown in New York, Los Angeles, Portland, and Rome, in addition to being included in numerous private collections.
